Water features (lakes, rivers, sea) for using in R

Hi all,

this is my first message on this forum. I am sorry for writing in English, I am still learning Dutch. I hope in the future I can use Dutch for my questions!

I have a set of point locations in the Netherlands, and for each one I would like to calculate their direct distance from water (lake, river, etc).

Could some of you suggest some map datasets that contain the required water features ? I am doing my mapping in R if that helps…

Both datasets are in (City)GML, I presume that R has a support (or a plugin) available for that…
